Surf Rescue Competition in 2009
These are great competitions in which to enhance your skills and to enjoy the camaraderie of working together with your fellow clubbies and lifesavers from other clubs.
Below you will find more details of the different kinds of competition and what is involved. Broadbeach has won a number of state and national medals in surf rescue competition and we are eager to encourage as many members as possible to get involved. It doesn’t matter if you are not particularly strong in all the areas- this competition is about spirit and commitment.
Champion Lifesaver (Male and Female events)
Individuals aged from Under 11 through to Open compete in a beach sprint, surf race, board race and tube race. They must also complete a theory paper and demonstrate resuscitation. Points are awarded for each event (the majority of points come from the last two) and the person with the highest number of points wins.
Champion Patrol (Mixed gender teams)
This event can be contested from Under 14 through to Open and involves a team of 4-6 members (depending on age group) working together to complete a number of events, including: a run-swim-run, swim-tube-board rescue race, theory paper, resuscitation and a patrol scenario. Points are again awarded for each event and the team with the highest number of points wins.
First Aid Competition (Mixed gender teams)
Teams of two people from the same age group must manage an unknown first aid scenario. Competitors are judged on their assessment, treatment, team work and overall management of the situation.
The South Coast Branch Surf Rescue Competition will be held at
Broadbeach on the weekend of 31 January – 1 February 2009.
You must get one of the top places at this event to qualify for the
Queensland Surf Recue Championships being held in
Bundaberg from13-15 February 2009.
Regular weekend training will be held at Broadbeach for these events. Mid week training will also be held in both Brisbane and the Gold Coast. If you are interested in training and competing in these events please attend a meeting at Broadbeach SLSC this
